We Are Back! Baby Bib-Apron

Many apologies for the long delay in posting. It was a crazy second half of 2012, what with the new puppy, wedding planning, actually getting married, then we up and bought a house right after! To say that we have been busy is an understatement, but its been probably one of the best times we have ever had.

What are we up to now?

Well, Dan is back on P90X+, which means that the dogs should take heed in where they run during workout times. With Dan so busy juicin’ his buff muscles, it leaves me time to get back into the swing of projects again. Yay!!!

My latest jaunt in the sewing world has been making some extra special baby bibs. These are not just ANY bibs, mind you. These are more along the lines of what you would call a “bapron”. Its a cross between a bib and an apron, made specifically for babies.

bapron - baby bib/apron

We went to a birthday party with the family last weekend and one of Dan’s cousins has a 10 month old daughter who was wearing one of these. I just HAD to make it, its so clever! It slides over the arms and ties behind the neck which makes it more secure. It also covers a lot more of the front area that kids make a mess of. They also are unable to flip it up over their face like a traditional bib. I mean, really, the benefits of a smock-like bib have got to outweigh the challenges.

Over the next couple weeks I am going to be busting out a ton of variations on this, including different colors AND making it reversible so you can use it more than once before you have to put it in the wash (just make sure you let the used side dry before reusing or you end up with baby food on your baby anyway). I am all for making parenthood a bit easier, even though technically Dan does the laundry…

So if you know anyone who is in desperate need of one of these to keep their lil drooler from ruining the precious clothing their grandparents are spoiling them with (I am also making larger sizes for toddler-preschool aged kiddos), you can purchase a custom set at our Etsy shop here.

Back In the Saddle – Houndstooth Baby Quilt

Hey gang – my sincere apologies for the lack of blog posts. I swear I have been working hard during that time away!

Today is just a highlight of some of what has been going on in our little world since last we met.

Swoon Quilt Block - Dan & Miki

I have 3/12 of the swoon blocks done for our wedding quilt. The longest part is cutting and ironing all the little bits and pieces, but they are coming along nicely.

Dan & I decided that since we are two months out from wedding bells that we should probably work on getting in shape. Obviously, neither of us is at risk for any sort of overweight title, but it couldn’t hurt to tighten up! And, possibly, get a tan… jeez! So here are our “Before” pictures, that we can compare to later. You heard it here, you have to hold us accountable. Guess that means I don’t get to skip out on the gym again tonight…

I gave mister dog man a haircut. As you can see, my dog grooming skills need a little work.

Mustaches - Dan & Miki

Look! They have matching mustaches!

Flower Cupcakes - Dan & Miki

I made these flower cupcakes for the July birthday peeps at work! They are made out of candy melts and sprinkles on top.

Houndstooth Baby Quilt - Dan & Miki

And last, but certainly not least, I started this lovely lil doll. Its a houndstooth baby quilt, and I am just finishing up the top-stitching on it before I add a bright orange binding on it. The backing is a brilliant blue. I have no idea what kind of baby room theme this would go with but I couldn’t help myself!

I will be reusing the houndstooth pattern in the future for some California Girl from Moda that I have. I don’t even want to cut that fabric, I love it so much. Ugh. conundrum.

More posts to come soon (I promise) as we finish up wedding stuff and get this ball rolling. 56 days to get in shape and finish planning this wedding!!!
